FAQ

Answers to your most frequently asked questions.

  • My style is laid-back, lifestyle photography, with some documentary style photos sprinkled in. But those are just words that mean different things to different people…

The best way to get a feel for my style to peek at my portfolio and social media to see what types of photos to expect when working with me. Sessions are focused on your personalities and your connections with each other. I grab a few “smile at the camera” photos if you wish, and leave most of the session for time to watch you connect, share your favorite activities, and just be together.

Some people appreciate a little more direction than others, and I think I’m pretty good at sensing that and keeping sessions light and fun vs awkward. I’ll give basic prompts and then work around what is naturally happening to capture the true YOU.

  • There is no one-size-fits-all answer, but I have so many ideas! I’ve been photographing Columbus Ohio families since 2013. Let’s chat about the best location for photos for your family… that can be a place that you love or that has meaning to you, or maybe just a place you’ve always wanted to explore. That might mean in-home, at a favorite local park, in a cool downtown neighborhood with some murals or sculptures…. or a combination. Once I get to know you and your personality, I’ll share some ideas and give you my favorite options for you. I also love for you to bring your own ideas, I’m always game for shooting at a new spot.

  • Schedule a call or send me an email to get started!

  • Typically I recommend planning at least a couple of months ahead of when you’d like to have photos in hand. If you’ve never had photos taken before, you might not realize all of the time it takes after the session to edit and get the images back to you. Especially in the fall, it may take some time to grab a spot in my calendar, to reschedule if needed (if weather doesn’t cooperate or if someone is ill), to get edits complete and your gallery delivered (generally 2-3 weeks), and for you to have plenty of time to choose your collection and order products. Plan early so you can be relaxed and confident you’ll have your photos in hand when you need them.

  • Simply put: to see if we are a good fit. Yes, it’s old school, but I find that the best way to fill you in and answer all of your questions is in a 10 minute phone call instead of back and forth emails. I can tell you all about how my sessions flow, what to expect, and you can get an idea of my personality. It’s usually a time to start a chat about locations and dates, too… win, win.

  • One of the most common questions I get is “what should we wear?”  Simple answer: wear what feels like YOU.

    • Keep wardrobe simple; try neutral and natural colors or a few pops of bold color or patterns

    • Style guide provided after booking and access to me for help with choosing outfits.

    • Sessions go best when kids are comfortable...brand new shoes or an itchy sweater can really influence their attitude

    • You'll photograph best when you feel like yourself

    • Consider bringing second options just in case they are needed (spills and trips and muddy kid shoes, oh my)

  • Yes, absolutely! I have been doing Columbus Ohio business photography for several years and have worked with some great companies along the way. You can find more info here.

Just like in my family photography, my strength is in sessions that are about telling a story. Need interesting headshots, social media content, website images? Please contact me to discuss options for your specific needs.

  • Within three weeks of your session, I will have your edited images available for online viewing (75+ for a typical session).

  • Of course! A lot of people worry about pets not cooperating, but please don’t. I’m up for the challenge and want to include them if that’s important to you.

  • Not generally. I very occasionally offer pop up mini sessions and those are announced on IG and sometimes via my email list. You can add your name to the pop up on this site or email me to be added!

If you need a refresh or quick session, I suggest looking at a Worthington Weekday session. They are short and sweet (15 mins) and you can find more info on the session page. You can also schedule a chat to look at my open dates!

  • Sometimes. I generally only take a handful each year, and they are set up just like family sessions. In fact, I encourage family photos as part of the session… whether that be photos with siblings, a pet, a parent, a couple friends, or all of the above.

My favorite senior sessions are those that involve some adventure… a walk around the Short North, checking out some murals in Franklinton, hiking around a metropark. I like to capture lots of personality and just a few formal shots for the yearbook.

If you’re looking for mostly posed and formal shots, I’m likely not your gal. But I’ve got photog friends I can connect you with and am happy to do that.

So give me a shout. I’d love to hear your ideas and see if we are a good fit.

  • *Nope.

(*Unless it is a tiny and intimate barefoot wedding in the forest or a backyard gathering with friends and then oh-my-goodness-YES. I’m in. I’ve got a handful under my belt and am glad to share some images with you.)
